Yeah to be fair, he doesn’t seem to think that the one state solution isn’t a better solution, but that it’s an unrealistic solution, and I am not very convinced why he thinks that.

NOAM CHOMSKY: Nobody supports—I mean, you can talk about a one-state solution, if you want. I think a better solution is a no-state solution. But this is pie in the sky. If you’re really in favor of a one-state solution, which in fact I’ve been all my life—accept a bi-national state, not one state—you have to give a path to get from here to there. Otherwise, it’s just talk. Now, the only path anyone has ever proposed—

Anarchist Queer, I think the reason for that is because Chomsky will claim “it’s not up to me, or you”. It’s up to the Palestinians, and they have an option, the two state settlement, that is advocated by the international community and the Arab league.

It’s a rational position, though I like the proposal given by Tariq Ali and others for a single state.

I think he’s an intelligent man. I’ve come to know him first as a linguistic theorist, then as an anti Zionism and imperialism, then as an anarchist and libertarian socialist. Few people can master three fields. One thing I don’t like about him is that he opposes one state solution.

I got to see Noam Chomsky speak on this not too long ago at the Palestine Center for Peace in Boston. Unfortunately missed all the other recent events he’s been at, but he’s certainly a treasure in Boston.
